Autographs on iron


The Christmas tree from the topping out ceremonies has now blown away from the commemorative I-beam but the autographs of university officials remain soon to be covered for all-time beneath the exterior siding of the future Hannon Library.

Library rooms naming opportunities


As the library moves along (T-12 months to ready) it occurs to me that there will be soon a great flurry of activity in regards to naming different areas within the Hannon structure. For example the present day Von der Ahe Library Archives & Special Collections Frank Sullivan Reading Room is named in honor of a warmly remembered long time faculty member of our English department.

A few years after arriving at Loyola from St. Louis U., Yale scholar Sullivan completed negotiations with the descendant Longstaff family for the gift of Leonard William Longstaff St. Thomas More Collection including a printed Utopia of 1518. The steel framing is nearly complete.


Yesterday a topping out ceremony was held to celebrate the placing of the highest girder of steel for the Hannon Library. Dean Brancolini and numerous others autographed the beam before it was hoisted away.
